Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) Non-Fatal Overdoses Short Report presents: (1) national estimates and characteristics of non-fatal overdose ED visits, (2) the identification of top substances involved in these visits and (3) the prevalence of polysubstance related non-fatal overdose ED visits. N-SUMHSS 2021 Public-Use Files Available on SAMHDA

The National Substance Use and Mental Health Services Survey (N-SUMHSS) 2021 public-use files are available on the SAMHDA site. The N-SUMHSS is an annual survey that provides information about the number and characteristics of public and private substance use and mental health treatment facilities within United States and its territories.

National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) Annual National Report, 2021.

 

An analysis of 2021 NSDUH data presents nationally representative estimates on the use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs; substance use disorders; receipt of substance use treatment; mental health issues; and the use of mental health services among the civilian, noninstitutionalized population aged 12 or older in the United States. Estimates are presented by age group and by race/ethnicity for selected measures. Additional data are also available in the 2021 NSDUH Detailed Tables.

Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN): Findings from Drug-Related Emergency Department Visits, 2021.

 

An analysis of final 2021 DAWN data presents: (1) nationally representative weighted estimates, including percent and unadjusted rates per 100,000, for all drug-related ED visits, (2) nationally representative weighted estimates for the top five drugs in drug-related ED visits, (3) the assessment of monthly trends and drugs involved in polysubstance ED visits in a subset of sentinel hospitals, and (4) the identification of drugs new to DAWN’s Drug Reference Vocabulary.

2022 Q3 Quick Statistics for TEDS

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration today announced the release of the 2022 Q3 Quick Statistics for the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS). The Quick Statistics tool provides state profiles for TEDS, National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services, and National Mental Health Services Survey data. The TEDS is a national data system of annual admissions to and discharges from substance abuse treatment facilities.

SAMHSA Recognized by Results for America for Progress in Building Evidence and Data to Improve Results

 

SAMHSA was one of nine federal agencies recognized by Results for America for progress in building and using evidence and data to achieve better results in 2022, in the 2022 Invest in What Works Federal Standard of Excellence. SAMHSA made huge strides compared to the year prior and achieved silver certification for 2022. Dr. Meaghan McHugh, from SAMHSA’s Office of Evaluation in the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, received the award on behalf of SAMHSA at an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on Nov. 17.

TEDS-A and TEDS-D Public-Use Files on SAMHDA

The Treatment Episode Data Set - Admissions (TEDS-A) concatenated 2000-2020 and 2020 public-use files are available on the SAMHDA site. In addition, the Treatment Episode Data Set: Discharges (TEDS-D) 2020 public-use files are also available. TEDS is a national data system of annual admissions to and discharges from substance use treatment facilities.

2020 MH-CLD Public-Use Files Available on SAMHDA

The Mental Health Client-Level Data (MH-CLD) 2020 public-use files are available on the SAMHDA site. The MH-CLD and the Mental Health Treatment Episode Data Set provide information on mental health diagnoses and the mental health treatment services, outcomes, and demographic and substance use characteristics of people in mental health treatment facilities. This information comes from facilities that report to individual state administrative data systems.

SAMHSA Releases TEDS 2020 Annual Report

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration today announced the release of the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) 2020 Annual Report. This report presents national- and state-level data from the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) for admissions and discharges occurring in 2020, and trend data from 2010 to 2020. It summarizes demographic information and the characteristics and outcomes of treatment for alcohol and/or drug use among clients aged 12 years and older in facilities that report to individual state administrative data systems. Data include records for treatment admissions and discharges that were received and processed through November 22, 2021.
